agencies operate their Emergency Operations Centers using
NIMS/ICS. You will better understand their operations by reading
the NIMS materials and taking the courses. There is a lot of new material on the site: NIMS Basic: Concepts and Principles, Systems and Processes. This series of documents tells you just about everything you'd ever want to know about NIMS. Recommended training courses can be found at FEMA Independent Study Course List Courses recommended for all emergency responders including ARES/RACES and CERT are: IS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System IS-200 ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents IS-700 National Incident Management System (NIMS) Additional courses recommended for all EOC responders including ARES/RACES and CERT are: IS-800 National Response Plan (NRP), An Introduction NIMS ICS (National Incident Management System Incident Command System) is the new national standard for incident response. Any agency that receives federal preparedness grant dollars (just about every city, county, state government and most fire districts!), they must operate in accordance with NIMS ICS or lose their grant funding. The website provides a link to the NIMS compliance schedule, so you can read the requirements The NRF (National Response Framework) presents the guiding principles that enable all response partners to prepare for and provide a unified national response to disasters and emergencies – from the smallest incident to the largest catastrophe. The Framework establishes a comprehensive, national, all-hazards approach to domestic incident response. |
